Feel Connected with Yourself and Others

Kaluluwa Counseling & Wellness Services: Jackie Tyson, LCSW

[Kah-luh-luh-wah]: Filipino/Tagalog for Soul, Spirit

You don't ever remember a time when you felt comfortable in your own skin. You have always felt different, and like you don't belong.

I'm here to help.

I'm Jackie and I help individuals who have been through trauma, and are having a hard time adjusting to life's changes due to grief and loss.

I help clients find healing, restoration, and confidence by helping them release stories that continue to keep them stuck, and to finally unleash their true, authentic self.

I work holistically, using a trauma informed, anti-oppressive lens to help others find their strengths in celebrating their unique identity. Every step we take together is tailored to you, and always with an end goal in mind.

Oftentimes, therapy only utilizes practices learned in counseling. Due to my experience in public health, prevention, nursing, and spirituality, I use psychotherapy modalities and other ancestral knowledge. Also, my training in Brainspotting further connects the body and mind. This helps clients get reconnected to their soul.

First, we work together to calm the mind/body connection that are causing overwhelm of emotions. Then, we explore how your past has impacted your present. Through our work together, I'll help you find your own inner wisdom to be the best version of yourself.

I am dedicated to helping people heal and learn tools so they can be the best version of themselves.

I am a 2nd-generation Asian American, who is a child of immigrants from the Philippines. I had to navigate different cultural identities at home, and in society. Originally from metropolitan New Jersey, I enjoy working with a diverse group of clients from various backgrounds. I am especially passionate about serving those in the BIPOC community (Black, Indigenous, People of Color).

Also, as a person who has mono-ocular vision (vision in one eye), and a person who has experienced pregnancy loss, I have a special interest in working with clients:

- who have experienced disenfranchised grief (grief not acknowledged by society)

- who have experienced trauma

- or have felt like an outcast

In addition, I am a firm believer that trauma is stored in the body, and is passed on through DNA. My goal is to reduce trauma in the young adult to childbearing period to collectively heal trauma, so it is no longer passed down to generations, or through the family.
